Four-panel powered folding landing doors are still in operation in numerous automotive and chemical industry facilities today. These doors were developed and installed 30 to 40 years ago by two leading German elevator manufacturers. As both companies have since become part of larger corporations and no longer offer this door design, there has been a longstanding need for a modern replacement solution.

In practice, replacing these doors with hinged or vertically opening doors has often proven unsuitable. For this reason, Meiller developed SINIUS®, a new four-panel powered folding landing door that can replace existing systems on a one-to-one basis without structural modifications. A key requirement was that existing installation spaces could continue to be used while meeting all current safety requirements.

Although EN 81-20/50 does not explicitly address powered folding landing doors, SINIUS® complies with the safety values required today, including an impact force of 150 N, 10 J closing energy and 4 J nudging energy. The development process was accompanied by TÜV Süd from the outset.

The door achieves all required safety standards without additional measures such as light curtains or landing area monitoring. It is available in widths from 2,000 to 4,000 mm and heights from 2,000 to 3,000 mm, is powder-coated and rated to IP54. Designed for elevator cars without a car enclosure door, it can also be combined with Meiller’s GENIUS® Plus i roller shutter door. The system is operated by two motors and controlled via a MiDrive® controller.

Designed as a robust industrial door, SINIUS® ensures high availability even when door panels are damaged. Individual door panels and threshold guide elements can be replaced quickly and easily when required.

SINIUS® was primarily developed as a replacement for existing four-panel folding landing doors. In addition, it is ideally suited for the modernization of large industrial and freight elevators as well as for new heavy-duty elevator installations in combination with the GENIUS® Plus i car roller shutter door. This provides operators with a future-proof solution that complies with current standards and ensures long-term operational reliability.
